Mist Over the Lake

My Design Philosophy

Mist Over the Lake' (1 & 2) represents a time of quietness, stillness and a time for self reflection during our time of isolation and self distancing. In a sense a re-connection with the self in finding a quietude within. The need to distance one self from family, friends, work and other activities which may have created stress and anxiety has led to where many of us have turned to creating or tuning in to past times that give joy or peace in our time of solitude. Finding something that lies within us to see us through the most difficult of days. Like contemplating the lake on the mistiest of days instilling calm and tranquility.

My Design Inspiration

The colours over the lake changes so frequently, from sunny blues to misty greys. Looking over the lake on  misty or rainy days there is a lot of water in the air which melds with the waters on the lake.  Sometimes the lines are blurred.

My Materials

The works are both hand formed in Southern Ice Porcelain. The surface is scratched and carved to create a textural rain -like design.

The varying shades of delicate pale green glaze elude to the watery mists  that appear over the lake, blurring our vision into the distance.
